Since 1992, the Portsmouth Museums Foundation has raised over $10 million to support the Children’s Museum of Virginia. Our mission is to provide tax-deductible private support to the Children’s Museum of Virginia and other City museums, which are educational and economic assets for all of Hampton Roads.
How the Foundation Supports the CMVA Annually
Bunny Hop 5K Run
The Bunny Hop 5k & 1 Mile Family Fun Run is a family-friendly event where participants can enjoy a flat, fast, picturesque course along the Portsmouth Waterfront and fun activities afterward. All proceeds benefit the Portsmouth Museums Foundation in support of the Children’s Museum of Virginia.
Endowment bricks are available for purchase for $200 per brick. These bricks are in the mall in front of the Children’s Museum of Virginia.
The Coleman Collection at Winter Wonderland
Since 2004, the Coleman Collection has been featured in Olde Towne Portsmouth at the Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center during Winter Wonderland. The Portsmouth Museums Foundation purchased the collection from Coleman Nursery in early 2004 and many volunteers worked long hours to restore the collection prior to the opening of the holiday season of that year. Many favorites include Sleeping Santa, Victorian Skaters, Holidays around the World and the Snow Babies. Fanciful elves prepare their treats at Santa’s Bakery and Candy Shop . The nativity scene was sold to Monumental Methodist Church and is also displayed during the holiday season.
In 2015 the collection was sold to the City of Portsmouth.
Dine & Discover: The Children’s Museum of Virginia
Dine & Discover was reimagined in the Fall of 2021 as an exclusive and fun event to thank our private and major donors. Attendees spend the evening celebrating their support of the Children’s Museum of Virginia with live music, locally catered food & drink, a silent auction, and more.
